Parks and Recreation

The Hanover Township Park System of approximately 10 acres includes three recreational areas. Sherwood Park (LINK) located at the end of Sherwood Street includes 1 baseball/softball field, 1 volleyball court, 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, a tot's playground, and a recently enlarged pavilion area. New recreation equipment has been installed in the park and maintenance work in the park to address public safety issues has also been completed.

Chestnut Grove Park (LINK) is located adjacent to the Township Building serving in a large part the residents of the Chestnut Grove Town Garden Development. This park includes playground equipment for tots, a basketball court, a volleyball court, a street hockey/tennis court, a pavilion area, and a gazebo. Removal of certain equipment for safety purposes has occurred, and there has been some replacement of equipment. Additional equipment has been purchased for this park. Maintenance work in the park to address public safety issues has also been completed.

The Township's Canal Park System (LINK) is located off of Dauphin Street. This park provides the means for passive recreation in our community including a towpath and 2 gazebos, as well as, a 45' by 72' pavilion to accommodate large group functions. The Township has acquired from Lehigh County all of the Catasauqua Lake property located adjacent to the Township Park, as an addition to our Canal Park System. This acquisition includes the lake area, the existing parking lot, a storage facility on the property, as well as, the additional open area associated with the County Park System.

Reservation of the pavilion areas in Chestnut Grove Park and Sherwood Park for picnics, etc., is free for Township Residents, with a $100.00 refundable Security Deposit. Reservation of the pavilion area in Canal Park is free for Township Residents with a $250.00 refundable Security Deposit. The seasonal fee for usage of Sherwood Park ball field is $25.00 plus a $50.00 refundable Security Deposit. The fee for reservation of the pavilion areas in Chestnut Grove Park and Sherwood Park is $100.00 for Non-Residents, with a $100.00 refundable Security Deposit. The fee for reservation of Canal Park Pavilion Area is $250.00 for Non-Residents, with a $250.00 refundable Security Deposit. There is no fee for reservations under 30 individuals at all Township pavilion areas; however, the applicable refundable Security Deposit is still required.

As you may already be aware, the Township has discontinued the Summer Recreation Program as a direct result of poor attendance for those activities.
